This happens often..: When doctors listen to your complaints they run a list of possible diseases in their head and spend the visit trying to narrow down the list. If they are not sure then they will do some tests to confirm or rule out these diseases. Perhaps your doctor has ruled out diseases like infection, cancer or inflammation ... that is good news. He may now choose an empiric therapy to help you feel better.
