Multiple reasons: Regular menstruation is necessary for fertility. So if you want to start family, periods are needed. Chemical periods in PCOS are medically necessary to assist patient with desire for fertility. Besides fertility, periods occur to allow sloughing of uterine lining and allow the uterine lining to turnover. Consider seeing an OB/GYN for further discussion & evaluation.
