A member asked:

Can an anxiety disorder cause diverticular disease due to the increased contractions and resulting pressure increase?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anxiety is because: I do not think that anxiety could cause diverticulosis/diverticulitis. A diet poor in fibers and rich in spices can cause indigestion, flatulence, hemorrhoids and eventually diverticular disease. The digestive disorder causes anxiety-type sensations.
