Sick infant: Your baby's first illness is always a scary event. Most of these are viral for which no specific treatment is available, and most medications are not approved for this age group. Maintaining hydration (Pedialyte), comfort care (rest, love, Tylenol) and close observation are good practices. Extreme irritability, decreased urination, excessive vomiting, very high fevers, lethargy = ER visit!

Symptomatic care: It sounds like your baby may have caught your cold. Treatment at this age is aimed at helping the baby feel better - saline drops in nose, humidifier, bulb suction of secretions if necessary. Monitor for fever or increasing symptoms. If you are concerned that the baby is not acting normally or having any difficulty breathing, see the pediatrician.
