Many possibilities: Sore throats have many causes. Dry mouth is an often overlooked cause. Viral infections are common causes, they can accompany other cold symptoms or have just sore throat and some fatigue. Strep bacterial infection is another. Acid reflux, and reaction to acid and spicy food are also causes. With infectious causes household contacts can pass disease around. Handwashing reduces this greatly.
