Different structures: A rotator cuff tear is a tear in a tendon of one of four rotator cuff muscles. You can move as tolerated, and strengthening rotator cuff muscles is part of nonoperative treatment. A SLAP lesion is a tear in the superior glenoid labrum, the cartilage that deepens the socket of the shoulder joint. An anterior posterior tear is called Superior Labral tear Anterior Posterior. Surgery is often needed.

Keep it moving.: A rotator cuff tear is a detachment of a muscle. A SLAP tear is a tear in the "gasket" of the saucer of the shoulder joint. Keep the shoulder moving to prevent a frozen shoulder.
