A member asked:

I have develop a fungus on my nails of my hand a had a kidney transplan about 2 years ago (2012 and also l'm a diabetic can it be med.or diabetic.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fungal infection: Onychomycosis (a fungal infection of the nail), is more likely to occur in diabetics and with immunosuppressive therapies associated with posttransplantation care. There are other medical conditions and environmental/physical factors that will increase the risk of developing the infection, including moisture and long fingernails. It can be treated successfully, but 20% of these will reoccur.
