Try this: The cuff should fit snugly but not be stretched, neither should if feel uncomfortable. If this occurs then the BP might register as artificially higher than it truthfully is. There is some controversy regarding what level the cuff should be at when measuring. I think (and I think the literature largely shows this) it is best measured in the seated position with cuff at about the level of the heart
