Isolation: Prevention is by isolation of cases, protection of those working with them, and disposing properly of remains. Infection only occurs by direct contact. Serious work is being done on vaccines and immunoglobulin preventatives but these take months and years to develop. Small outbreaks in the past were controlled with isolation but this attack was allowed to spread over a greater area.
