Ativan (lorazepam) and alcohol: It is not recommended that patients take Ativan, (lorazepam) or any benzodiazepine, and use alcohol, as both are respiratory depressants which can decrease respiratory drive leading to anoxia & death. That said, you mention having taken 0.05 mg (tho i suspect u mean 0.5mg of Ativan). This is a relatively Lo dose. However, the safest thing to do is ring your prescribed & ask! Then avoid taking benzos w/ EtOH:)

Really? 0.05 mg.?: You may've missed by 1 decimal place which means you could've really taken 10x that amount. NOT! Please help me understand why people frequently ask questions about combining alcohol & tranquilizers. Really? My belief is that people truly know the answer. Especially since drug labeling is clear about saying ALCOHOL SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN WITH THIS DRUG. So basically, I hope you'll be well. Good Luck.

Yes: You didn't say which medication you took, but I'm assuming it was Xanax (alprazolam) or Ativan for a panic attack. The short answer is yes, if you only took one tablet with one glass of wine you will be fine. You may feel more sleepy or fatigued than usual after taking the medication by itself. Please don't drive for several hours. In the future, it is not advisable to mix sedating medications with alcohol.
