Might need X-ray.: If it hurts on the inner side, especially behind the bone, or if you could not walk on it right after it happened, you might need an x-ray to check for fracture. In the meantime, elevate it, ACE-wrap it, and ice it (in a sealed plastic bag, wrapped in a clean towel) for 20-30 min / hr. If it still hurts in the morning, go to have an X-ray taken.

Worrisome: The bruising and swelling maybe a sign of significant ligament damage or even fracture. An x-ray is strongly recommended and you should be seen by an orthopedic surgeon.
