Heat causes swelling: Hello Karen, When the temperature is high, your blood vessels dilate as your body tries to cool itself. When the vessels dilate, some of the fluid in your blood leaks into the surrounding tissues which can cause some local swelling, especially in the feet and ankles. Hope that helps. Excessive sweat: Water pills may not seem to work during hot weather because your legs are more prone to swelling during heat. You may need a slightly higher dose and need to elevate your legs as well.
