A member asked:

What is prolonged rupture of membranes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Over 24 hours, but..: If more than 24 hours have passed between rupture of membranes and delivery the description of prolonged rupture of the membranes may be used. In such cases the risk of the baby and/or the mother getting an infection rises. So, generally in a full term situation you would like to achieve delivery sooner than that. When pregnancies are before the full term point you might want to avoid delivery.
