First, if you are: talking about epidural steroid injections they really are not indicated for back pain due to disc disease like an annular tear which I believe what you are describing but for a disc herniation causing sciatic pain primarily. Back pain usually is better within several weeks but 10% can become chronic -see an orthopedic spine surgeon for an evaluation if not improving for treatment recommendations
