Possibly exposed to meningoencephalitis. unknown if viral or bacteria. dr. prescribing ciprofloxacin 500mg. have one kidney, born this way. is safe?

Prevent meningitis: Your doc has put you on what's called 'chemoprophylaxis' -which is using medication to prevent infection after a possible exposure. I trust ur doc weighed the benefits vs. very small risks of putting you on therapy. Indeed, Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is a very good medicine for this -and with having only one kidney it should be OK. You should take a 1x dose. That lessens the chance for side-effects further.
