A member asked:

I am a 17 years old boy who wants to be a pro football player. would lifting weights with arms affect my growth? what about legs or abs? (now 5foot7)

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: Most males finish their linear growth at 17-18.If you entered puberty later than your friends, you may have longer, and an x-ray of your wrist would reveal this. Weight training under a qualified supervisor would be fine. You are likely done growing taller but could put on muscle mass. If preparing for soccer, this is fine, American football would be a reach for someone 5'7".
