Cleansing/rinsing: Lavage is a therapeutic irrigation or rinsing of an area. It can be related to lavaging or cleaning a wound with direct pressure, cleansing an ear canal, or a body cavity, such as the stomach, bronchi, sinuses, peritoneal region, etc. Another example would be placing a tube into the stomach, through the mouth, after someone has overdosed on pills to remove/lavage them to prevent further harm.
