Single artery: Usually in the umbilical cord there are two arteries and one vein. Every now and then a baby is born with one artery and one vein. In the majority of cases this is not a problem. That single artery can support the pregnancy. Occasionally the single artery can indicate the presence of a congenital abnormality of heart, kidney, intestines.
