Not likely: Sinus surgery used be very aggressive and they used to remove more tissue than is happening these days. She probaly is referring to the way sinus surgery was being done back then. Unless she was referring to some type of cancer removal surgery in which the bone that houses the sinus is removed (maxillectomy).
