ER's are for for: Serious problems that may require hospital admission, and tehy are connected to one, ct's, mri's, code teams and trauma centers. An urgent care center can deal with many less serious issues, from school physicals, sore throats, tooth and ear aches even shots for travel. Er's cost a lot, urgent care may demand payment, but always cheaper than er.

Significant: Urgent cares may be staffed by nurse practitioners or doctors with varying levels of training. They often handle minor illnesses and injuries. Emergency medicine is a medical specialty practiced by doctors specifically trained to diagnose, stabilize, and start treatment for emergency conditions from all areas of medicine. There is overlap b/c many people go to ers with minor problems.
