A member asked:

What do you suggest if my mum was diagnosed with shingles yesterday, and tomorrow my daughter in law is due to give birth to my new grandson.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Avoid contact: Someone with shingles is not contagious the same way as a kid with chickenpox. It does not pass in air droplets or saliva of the patient. The virus is present in the weeping sores. If these are kept covered and people wash their hands often, spread is minimized. It may be best just to avoid contact.
