Change in hormones : Most women go through menopause close to 50 but it does happen early in some and lack of menstrual cycle for one year is consistent with that scenario. There are other hormone issues that would affect menstrual cycle but would not mean early menopause. A detailed history, exam and labs are needed to determine the cause.
