From HPV: precancerous growth in the vagina uterus region are defined by Pap smear. This can be followed by colposcopy, or a magnified view of the cervix vagina. When the Pap liquid is further examined for shed cells, an HPV test is performed to make an association between the virus and premalignancy. Having an elevated HPV doesn't signify cancer or not but that of a possible association.
