Depends on injury: The extent of the traumatic brain injury (TBI) would determine the long-term sequelae. In most cases of TBI in college atheletes, these are mild TBIs or concussions. It can be a brief loss of consciousness or a transient change in mental status. Generally, these clear and improve over 4-6 weeks. The key is to avoid repeated concussions in short succession as there may be cumulative effects.
