You doctor can help: Sometimes waiting another week can help. If not, there are a variety of ways to get a cervix to ripen. Medicines (prostaglandin formulations) are most commonly inserted vaginally to help this process when it is time to be induced. Alternatively, Foley catheter or laminaria can be inserted into the cervix to mechanically dilate the cervix. You doc will decide which is best for your situation.
