The treatment of: Alcoholism in some patients may be very complex. In short, medications are used for underlying problems such as depression, anxiety or ocd, but there is also a medication to help control cravings with alcoholism, campral. For some patients the Campral can be life saving.

Alcohol: Agree. Also, an older remedy is antabuse (disulfiram).

Alcohol: Another deterrant medication would be antabuse (disulfiram). Discuss with your doctor.

Also: I agree with dr ali, also Campral can help with cravings. Naltrexone (revia), especially in the monthly depot form (vivitrol) can help decrease cravings and the number of days drinking heavily.

YES HAVE PRESCRIBED: There are two approaches ; 1. To reduce cravings using either Campral or naltrxone or 2. The deterrent Antabuse (disulfiram) that only reacts if you are exposed to alcohol. The deterrent works by blocking the breakdown of alcohol with a build up of one of the metabolites and this leads to nausea, vomiting, and elevated blood pressure. Varying response rates to these to be honest. Have to really want it!
