No: A solitary neurofibroma can exist as is and when removed ends the problem. With von Recklinghausens neurofibromatosis, one has diffuse neurofibromas virtually covering every part of their body, including face , abdominal wall and extremities. The eventual consequence is the conversion to neurofibrosarcoma which can be fatal.
