Dr. James Fox answered

In a way: Anything that is sedating may be used as a sleeping pill. This medication is similar to other benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Ativan, Klonopin, (clonazepam) Restoril). It primarily reduces the time to sleep onset by 4 -10 min. Prolongs the first two stages of sleep which does not result in prolonged total sleep time ~ 60 min longer. Reduces deep sleep and REM sleep thus not improving restorative sleep.
