Not usually: What you described is called a panic attack, which if reoccurs is called panic d/o. It is considered an anxiety d/o. Major depression has different signs and symptoms and is a mood d/o. A person can have both. There are medications which can treat both conditions at once. A psychiatrist will be able to help. Good luck.
