Unasyn (ampicillin and sulbactam): Unasyn (ampicillin and sulbactam) is an antibiotic that combines a type of penicillin (called ampicillin) with sulbactam. This drug was developed to deal with bacteria that destroy part of the penicillin chemical structure, thus making these bacteria immune to the antibiotic. The sulbactam inactivates the bacterial resistance, allowing the penicillin portion to be effective.
