Outbreaks of what?: If you are talking about herpes, it can spread to a sexual partner even when there are no visible lesions. I trust that you have informed you boyfriend of your infection.

Yes: suppressing outbreaks helps lessen chances of spreading it but it doesnt eliminate them.
