Herpes Simplex: 75% of Americans have Herpes Type One. It is spread through viral shedding at the point of infection. Having an outbreak does not correlate in any way with viral shedding. You can be contagious with or without an outbreak and on the other side you can also not be contagious at all during an outbreak. No correlation there.
