May be normal: Everyone has very large taste buds at the back of their tongue. Most people don't look back that far. It's possible that they have reacted to something you ate but they are probably normal.

Taste buds, normal?: I can't tell you whether or not you have oral herpes over the internet, but if that is your only symptom or complaint, I would not draw that conclusion. There are large taste buds at the back of your tongue and in fact they may be normal anatomy. Your own dentist can examine you for any dental issues or concerns and your own physician can evaluate any medical issues or concerns.
