Depends on scan: If you are referring to having an ultrasound, then yes, most abdominal ultrasounds require that the stomach be empty and the bladder full, but this also depends on what organ or area is being imaged. For CT or MRI scans, bladder fullness is not necessary unless looking specifically at the bladder or kidneys, and then oral contrast may be ordered. For nuclear medicine studies, it depends on type
