Trust provider: Fetal blood circulation requires a connection between the two sides of the heart. Normally, this closes during birth, but it's common to remain connected infancy, then close themselves during early childhood posing no threat. If your provider suggested it would close itself, then it's likely common & not dangerous. Keep follow up appointments & recommendations. You shouldn't worry.

Normal: All babies have a hole in their heart (between their atria) when they are in the womb. This is normal.
