No: Typically, when people talk about stomach stapling they are referring to a surgery called the vertical banded gastroplasty (which we don't do in the us anymore). The bypass, which does is a different type of surgery to treat obesity. It involves not only stapling the stomach to make it smaller but also re-routing your small intestines to decrease the number of calories you absorb after you eat.
