IDS-SR: The inventory of depressive symptomatology - self report (ids-sr) is a very good tool for assessing depression severity. The assessment is open to the public: http://www.Ids-qids.Org/translations/english/ids-sr%20english.Pdf and the scores are interpreted as follows: http://www.Ids-qids.Org/index2.Html#interpretation . I would suggest seeing a psychiatrist for true interpretation, however.

Maybe: There are certain paper and pencil inventory tests which correlate directly with the signs and symptoms for major depression as in our diagnostic manual. One such test i like is called the: mongomery-asberg depression rating scale. For me, a score of 30 or higher is a definite sign the person has major depression. I will add that some physical ailments can cause depression, it's best to see a dr.
