Baby breathing: Babies breath fast. A respiratory rate of 60 breaths a minute is normal. That's 1 breath every second! If the baby has not been in yet for his first post-hospital check-up, then he needs to be seen today. If he had his check up and all was fine at that visit, you need to relax. If poor feeding, then back to doctor.

M.D. follow up: Infants have a more rapid respiratory rate than older children or adults. If you notice grunting, flaring of the nostrils or any discoloration of the skin, lips or hands/feet, it is important to have the baby checked right away. If the baby excessively sweats or periodically stops breathing, this also may indicate a problem. Straining may cause a temporary increase in the respiratory rate.

See your doctor: and have the baby checked out to make sure everything is ok. Babies do breath faster but have the baby checked to be on the safe side.
