Scar Tissue: I would guess from your mention of a scar that the pain you are experiencing is from the newly formed scar tissue, which is typically more sensitive than surrounding undamaged tissue. Scar tissue is also more fibrous in nature which likely accounts for the harder quality compared to surrounding tissue. Time should lessen the pain and steroid injections are available if needed for pain management.
