How likely is it to have a child tht is type 1 diabetic if no immediate family members have it but the girls mothers side, aunts and uncles do?

T1DM risk: The genetics of diabetes is complex, and you don't need a family history to get it, but the odds are fairly low. In the general population, the risk of someone getting T1DM in their lifetime is about 1:100. Your child's risk is probably about that, maybe slightly higher. A good description of this is at http://www.joslin.org/info/genetics_and_diabetes.html

Increased somewhat: The odds of someone having a diabetes if you have a first degree relative with diabetes is about five times higher (15% vs 3%). Gender is not a factor. There aren't any good studies looking at second degree relatives but at least for first degree relatives - the more you have, the higher the incidence.
