Ibuprofen: They are essentially cousins. Ibuprofen starts working more quickly, but doesn't last as long so you have to repeat the dose more often. Naproxen takes longer to reach it effectiveness, but lasts longer so you don't have to take it as often. Ice might help more with the swelling. Are you sure you do not have an infection?
