Hopefully yes: You did not say how long ago your surgery was. If very recent surgery, some fluid accumulation is not unusual. But if your surgery was a while ago, and you did not have gout before your surgery, I would be very concerned about swelling. Infection is the most serious problem that could be causing this. Please check with your doctor about your concerns

Pseudogout: Pseudogout is common in this setting. It is an acute inflammatory arthritis with effusion due to calcium pyrophosphate crystals. Ca and phos get released during surgery. Can crystallize. Another possibility is infection.
