Usually not: The effects of lactulose usually only last a day or two. Having bowel movments 4 times a day is not usually normal and should be evaluated by a doctor if you are not better soon.

Yes it is : Normal . Some people may go more than four times per day up to 2-3 days off meds. You can stop taking lactulose in the meantime if you feel you are going too often then resume when comfortable . What would be much better though , is if you have modified your diet and going naturally. Then take fiber supplement like Metamucil w lots of liquids.
