A member asked:

What are osteophytes, sclerosis, spurring...in relation to x-ray findings of the spinal column?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Arthritic changes: In the spinal column arthritic changes show up as extra bony growth which can cause pressure on nerves and spasm of muscles...these are called spurs, osteophytes, facet hypertrophy and can even lead to stenosis, or narrowing of the canals the spinal cord and nerves travel through.
