A member asked:

Is it true a cold with green/yellow sinus mucus will not go away without antibiotics?

Yes, most of the tim: The vast majority of of colds are caused by viral infections and will go away with/out treatment. We often provide medications for symptoms relief--such as cough suppresant, decongestants, and antihistamine to dry up some mucus/drip etc...And the rest is taken care of by your body. The effect of a typical cold takes 70-10 days..If worsens, consult doc. Good luck.

Yes, antibiotic not: Yes, it is true that a cold with any color discharge will resolve without antibiotics. A cold is a viral infection and an antibiotic (anti-bacterial) will not be helpful to treat a viral infection. To improve nasal hygiene, use daily saline rinses, which will thin secretions, reduce nasal congestion and post nasal drip. A cold will typically resolve within 2 weeks.
