Sinusitis is often caused by viruses like rhinovirus. It is difficult to determine which symptoms alone determine sinusitis and who would benefit from antibiotics. Antibiotics may benefit those with pus drainage in the sinuses, a symptom course that improves and then comes back suddenly, and symptoms over 10 days. There are also several risk factors that can predispose someone for sinusitis.
