Zyprexa (olanzapine) side effects: Like other antipsychotic meds, zypr can cause weight gain, elevated triglycerides, cholesterol and fasting blood sugar. Some liver strain could show up as incr in liver enzyme numbers. It can cause tight, twitchy or restless muslces, called eps and akathesia, relieved by side effect meds like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or cogent in. Higher doses: tired or sedated, so take at bedtime. Rare: drop in blood cell count.

Zyprexa: Zyprexa may cause Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome or Tardive Dyskinesia, extrapyramidal sx's. Other possible side effects include weight gain, abdominal pain, upset stomach increased cholesterol & triglycerides, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, akathisia. Elderly with psychosis due to dementia have an increased risk for death.

Olanzapine has a side effect profile that includes weight gain, upset stomach and abdominal pain, lipid elevations, headache, dry mouth, dizziness and the potential to cause tardive dyskinesia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome and extrapyramidal symptoms. It needs to be prescribed and followed closely by Psychiatry
