Azo Yeast: This otc product is advertised as relieving yeast infection symptoms and preventing recurrence. Because it is not touted as a treatment for a medical condition it is not regulated by the fda, does not undergo rigorous testing for efficacy, and can claim all sorts of beneficial effects without documentation other than personal endorsements. Maybe works, maybe not. All you lose is money.

Actually homeopathic products ARE regulated by the FDA, through the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the US. This is different from botanical products and nutritional supplements.

The problem with this product is that some of the components are actually homeopathic remedies (regulated by the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the US) and some are not (more like nutritional supplements). Such products confuse people about what a homeopathic medicine is and is not -- after all, the label says "homeopathic." :-) Quite a messy situation.

After reviewing this: Botanical compound on a number of sites (including the companies) was unable to find any listings of potential side effects.

This is one of those products that aren't really "homeopathic" because they're being used generically rather than according to patient's symptoms. Properly prescribed omeopathic remedies do not produce side effects -- although a person's symptoms may be temporarily aggravated in the healing process. This happens in maybe 5% of cases.

You're welcome, Dr. Fowler . . . although the confusion caused by products like this pains me. :-)

Azo yeast tablet: Some of the components in Azo yeast tablet are manufactured in a homeopathic manner, but aren't prescribed in a homeopathic way. It's being used like a generic supplement rather than as a remedy that has been specifically come to through homeopathic casetaking. Homeopathic medicines do not induce "side effects, " but occasionally can aggravate symptoms on the path towards healing. [see comment].

The remedies in this product may or may not be what you need individually, but the probiotic in it (not homeopathic) may be of benefit. Personalized homeopathic casetaking has a higher probability of helping you because your symptoms can be individualized and specifically prescribed for.
