A member asked:

What is the average time a patient, who is in coma due to a cardiac arrest for 15-25 mins, will take to show signs of improvement?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Poor prognosis: If they had no spontaneous circulation requiring CPR for >15 minutes, the prognosis is very poor. There may be irreversible brain injury. The prognosis is not determined by the timing, however. It's determined by their condition. If there's no brainstem activity, there will likely be no recovery. IF they have higher cortical activity, recovery is likely, will be slow, and may be incomplete.
