No, AND...: 500 mg of amoxicillin, twice a day, would need to be taken for 10-14 days to cure a moderate strep throat infection. It might not be sufficient for a severe infection. If you are considering self-treating a throat infection, I would recommend you see a doctor instead. Some things which look like strep to the naked eye are viral infections, which don't respond to antibiotics at all.
